We went down to the Niagara region on the Friday afternoon to stay with our pals Kris and Lisa. After checking out the club and preparing for tomorrow night, we went back to Kris and Lisa's place. While I hung out with Lisa, Kris, Blue and Nash went off to jam on air at the local college radio station at Brock U. The next day, everything went smoothly. Kris and his band Chromosphere are the opening act, so they're all there to help with the load-in and to play with me when I get bored. Stephen and Billy are the most fun, but in general I'm just glad to hang out with the boss when he's happy. This particular venue is very special. The Hideaway has had every act from Kim Mitchell to The Ramones, and Nash has played here many times in the past. It has a new owner, Steve, and the boss thinks this guy is very sharp. Hip enough to treat the bands right, and smart enough to avoid agents where possible. Things are organized with plenty of time to spare, so Nash and I take a long stroll around the neighbouhood. Rather a barren part of town, with yard dogs protecting way more territory than they deserve. I head into a group of trees, and before you know it, we're into a secluded forest. Stick-fetching and the ceremonial dump are all accomplished. I'm ready to relax for the evening, and I have my own lounge area as well. Nice accomodations, Steve. Chromosphere opened the show with a set of techno electronica. It was a small but appreciative audience. By the time Nash hit the stage, the crowd had grown considerably. This being the only major venue in the whole region, people came from Niagara Falls, Welland and Rochester NY to see the show. With nearly two hours of pure thrash, the audience is satiated. After the show, Nash talks with many friends and fans like Chris Irwin, Randy Reese, and Carl and Diane from Ithaca NY. The Nash Mystique goes beyond international boundaries. Because this club has so many bands booked, Nash and his fans will have to wait until February for a return engagement. |
