"Nosferatu. That name alone can chill the blood."
A lot of extra promo has gone into this show and Nash is hoping for a good turn-out of fans. There was an interview on a TV show called Bynon that went very well plus alot of written press. Arlene Bynon is a local Toronto interviewer who does her homework and asks all the right questions. Even with Nash sitting across from her in full bandage gear, she never asked, So tell me Nash, why the bandages?" The complete interview can soon be heard on the Nash Fan Site. We arrive at the cinema at noon in order to set up before the afternoon films. Nash isn't on until 9:30 but we need two hours to get ready. The Bloor Cinema is so cool. During the set-up, I go exploring behind the screen. If these walls could talk I would probably hear the hound of the Baskervilles. Hooowl. I won't be here for showtime. It's too scary. Nash and Alex get the stage ready while Cathie sets up the merchandise in the lobby. We leave the theatre at 2 pm and I stay home for the evening. Nash tells me all about it later. When the doors open at 9:00 there is a line-up around the block. It takes 45 minutes to get everyone into the theatre. As the start time of 9:30 passes, the crowd of almost 700 people get antsy. At ten to ten, Nash takes the stage. With the few words, "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Nosferatu", the movie begins. Unlike a bar gig, there are no distractions. The audience is completely absorbed. When the film comes to its dramatic conclusion 70 minutes later, there is a spontaneous standing ovation. Nash takes his bows and proceeds to walk off the stage and up the aisle towards the lobby. People reach out to shake Nash's hand amid cheers of "Bravo". There is a sense of decorum and formality, much like a classical presentation. Nash as maestro and Diva all in one. In the lobby, Nash sits at the merchandise table and autographs CD's and posters while chatting with the fans. There are many familiar faces such as Topper, Alex and Andrew, Lance Charles, Dr. K. Syinide and Dan Topolinsky. There are many new fans as well and they all express their admiration for the film and the music. After all is packed away, Nash talks with the owners Paul and Carmen. It has been such a great success that the show will be presented again at the Bloor Cinema very soon There are plans to simulcast the show on the internet as well as bring in a larger PA for a full stereo sound. Things can only get better at The Bloor. Special thanks to Kevin Shea, Anna-Lee, Liz, Kyle, and everyone else who made this an evening to remember. P.S. And that really was Ashley MacIsaac in attendance. Digger |
