Nash performed here back on March 8th, and he was looking forward to playing this club again. Although I wasn't allowed to come on this adventure, Nash promises me he'll let me come to the tent gig later in the month. Restaurant gigs suck for me. I'm not allowed to attend because of the hygeine thing. Compared to some humans, I'm positvely antiseptic. I lick myself more often than most humans bathe! And what about dressing room security? Nash says my services are better saved for The Corktown. Nash goes down to St. Catharines with Alex and a new stage tech, Greg Grace. Nash and Greg go way back so there is mutual respect for each others talent. The set-up is a lot easier with experienced help and Alex and Greg work well together. The Mindbomb caters to a young crowd who check out the latest new punk bands. When Nash arrives in town, an older crowd shows up. They do not patronize this venue. Some didn't even know how to find the place and these were locals in a small city. There was the usual gang up from Rochester, NY plus a noisy bunch of local yahoos who ended up getting so drunk they were evicted before the second set. The Loud Bunch wanted to hear Dead Man's Curve, but Nash gave them an instrumental art set first. A collection of all new zen pieces, the art set has lots of atmosphere but no vocals. As the ambience flowed over the attentive crowd, a lonely cry of 'NAAAAASH' bellowed from the back of the room like a wounded bull moose. The cry went out many times, irritating both Nash and the audience. There was pain in the cry, as if the hurt would not go away until he heard the familiar refrains of Dead Man's Curve. He got tossed well before Nash rocked them out for his finale. Such is the nature of a Nash crowd. Some well behaved and some overwhelmed by the desire to be drunk and 21 again. It is not inappropriate to rock out at a Nash show, its just being smart enough to know when. The audience enjoys the show and Nash signs autographs at the end of the night. Many fans show up with their old vinyl collections. That's always nice to see. Once again The Mindbomb staff did a great job and Igor wants to have Nash perform in the Tent Gig in the parking lot on Saturday, September 29. The tent gig will be a collection of bands preforming under a tent to an outdoor audience of 1000 people. For more details about this gig check out the gig listings. Digger |
