The Gordon Best Theatre

Here we go, off to Peterborough one more time. This will be our sixth visit to the Gordon Best Theatre and we re all looking forward to the gig.

I always get to go to Peterborough and help out with the driving. I also haul equipment up the stairs. Nash makes me do it.

Our friend Ian is the house tech and he's always ready to lend a hand so I'm not abused or anything.

The theatre is being promoted by an outside party, where before, Jerome the owner and Ian did all the hustling. Sometimes an outside promoter can be less than active in promoting a certain artist. He may be under the impression that the performer was an established artist in this venue and therefore it's a guaranteed crowd.

Nash is trying to build his audience here, one chair at a time.

We need all the publicity we can get. The gig has not been well promoted so the turnout is less than expected.

Nash is not very happy, but soldiers on with two sets of Thrash, including Grinder and a new version of Baba O'Riley.

Seeing as this is a theatre gig, the evening comes to an early close and we are soon packed up and on our 90 minute drive back to Toronto.

It's hard to develop a following in a small city like Peterborough unless the local promoter really gets behind their space, and promotes the club as much as the act.

Perhaps it is a sign of the times. Fewer people going out to gigs but more people visiting online, ordering CDs and talking to Nash through cyberspace.

Too bad they can't scratch my ears that way.
