Thom's friend Matt can't join us at this gig so Thom arranges for his friend Drew to meet us at Babylon in Ottawa. Drew is also a musician so he likes to see what gear Nash is working with. Babylon is a well-run club. Adam the owner and Justin the sound tech are always eager to make things work well. The usual gang of Nash desperados show up including Luc, Al and Don. We also meet Dave who has a small advertising company and buys four copies of Children of the Night for his staff. The CD is required listening at his office. Babylon is the kind of club where Nash can do any show and the presentation will be flawless. The sound is good, the atmosphere very intimate. The last time we were here Nash performed Nosferatu and it went very well. Tonight it's two sets of Nash Thrash and the crowd loves every minute of it. Ottawa is a much larger crowd than Montreal and some fans go back twenty years. They've seen it all and heard it all but they still want more. Nash and I have lots of time before the show to go out for a walk and a dump. There's plenty of open space and back alleys but we are careful to avoid the parking lot run by that middle-eastern-looking guy. I shit on his property once, and he wanted to barbecue my ass for dinner. Check out the previous Babylon entries. At the club, I hang out in the spacious dressing room downstairs and look forward to the visits from my friends Bob and Karla. Our old pal Steve arrives in good spirits and eager to share the ritual of Tequila and Herb. The show goes very well and a lot of fans are eager to get their CDs autographed at the end of the evening. Nash's cousin Kenny is in attendance and he helps with the teardown and the load-out. Nash, Thom and I head back to Cornwall feeling good about the last two gigs. Montreal still needs some better hype, but Ottawa is a very solid place to play and Babylon is the club of choice for Nash. Thanks to Adam, Justin and all the fans in Ottawa for making this another great gig. Digger |
