Like two art-house punk bands putting on a great show, these two films are totally original in their artistry and presentation. It is no wonder they make a great double bill. Nash's music isn't bad either! The day before the show, Nash, Alex and I pick up the PA compliments of Long and McQuade Music Store, and we set up the stage that afternoon at the Bloor Cinema.Even in the torturous heat, everything is prepared with little hassle.I'm not happy to leave the air-conditioned movie theatre for the hot and humid ride home but we'll soon be at the beach and I can cool off. On Thursday night, Nash and Alex go to the gig without me. I'm not needed for security for this casual a gig and I'm totally happy relaxing at home on the deck. Our friend Ratch is along to make sure everything goes smoothly. The crowd is all new. The usual gang of Nashaholics must be on vacation. There are no familiar faces yet there are a lot of $2 coupons submitted for discount at the door. That means these folks also went to the website. After the performance, the fans who come to meet Nash at the merchandise table are a collection of young and old, converted sceptics and die-hard devotees. There is lively discussion about their favorite moments in the movie, and the new fans have all been added to the mailing list for future presentations. Nash gets home early from these film nights, so I get a chance to hit the lake one more time while Nash tells me all about tonight's show. Nash has refined the presentation so it is now a live performance as much as a film screening. Nosferatu will be part of the repertoire for a long time. You can't keep a good vampire down. Digger |
