This is the second presentation of what is to become a regular event; Warp-Drive Wednesday is a monthly celebration of live electronic music and experimental performers, all carefully chosen by Nash himself to create an evening of diverse entertainment. This is just the second presentation and it will take a while to grow, but The Vatikan is the perfect club to hold this event and there are lots of other artists Nash wants to work with. Tonight, the opening act is well-known to Nash fans. He is Corpusse, Nash's favorite 300 pound Poet of the Apocalypse! On one previous gig, Corpusse entered the dressing room and scared me so bad I bit him on the ankle. Maybe that's why I'm not invited to The Vatikan (actually, it's because the owner of the club has a male dog who's very territorial. He's often in the room so I don't want to create a scene.) Corpusse and his keyboard partner Lorenz make quite an impression. As I've said before, either the audience gets it or they hate it. Tonight, the crowd is right into the crazed rantings, with Corpusse destroying an acoustic guitar to the chant of 'Rock and Roll, Rock and Roll'. After the debris is cleared off the stage, Nash appears and performs a set of Thrash that includes everyone's favorite, 'Grinder', an appropriate ending to an evening of noise and destruction. There are a lot of new faces in the crowd tonight, and Warp-Drive Wednesday is off to a good start. As the horribly cold Winter warms up for Spring, more people should come out of hibernation soon and enjoy the music. Thanks to Corpusse and The Vatikan for helping to make this a most enjoyable evening. Digger |
