Digger the Dog
Digger's Diary
Workers Arts and Heritage Museum
Showcase for Canadian Mental Health Week
With Nash the Slash, Lynn Be-Bee and Edgar Breau
Hamilton, Ontario
May 6, 2003

You may recall that Nash has previously done a performance for Mental Health Week in Toronto (Digger's Diary, Nov. 18, 1998) and now he's been invited to perform in Hamilton for a similar event

The museum is in an old stone building that is supposedly haunted by a woman whose ghost has frequently appeared. I don't think she's seen many dogs in her museum so she better stay away from me.

The performance space is a small ballroom at the rear of the building, with tall windows opening out to a large tangled garden. This place has character and lots of outdoor room for me to run around. As Nash and Derek set up the stage, our friend Lou arrives with Lynn and the other artists. Lou has been promoting Nash gigs in the Hamilton region for a long time and he set up this gig for Mental Health just to get a foothold on this cool space.

It is an early show tonight, and the intimate audience is treated to an evening of eclectic music.

Lynn Be-Bee singer and guitarist, was joined tonight by John on second guitar. Lynn has a very strong voice and can sing ballads or rock and roll with great delivery and conviction.

Edgar Breau was once in a psychedelic pop band called Simply Saucer. He now has his own band, a very competent 4-piece line-up that has a lot of fun playing his quirky tunes.

Nash does a performance of Two Artists (formerly Bombardiers. There are young and old in the audience tonight, and many remain afterwards to chat with Nash about his music and the artist Robert Vanderhorst and his paintings. This show is music accompanying nine paintings, while the final version will include over 25 paintings and will be premiering in Toronto in April 2004.

Lou and the gang stick around to help us load up the van and it's a casual 45 minute drive back to Toronto where Nash and I unwind with a beer and a milkbone. Another successful performance in Hamilton, our favorite city to visit.
