Nash's monthly gigs at The Vatikan are hit and miss. The Wednesday night is a tough sell, the show goes on too late at night for a mid-week gig, the weather is unpredictable and we are in the middle of a minor plague known as SARS. The public is being cautious to say the least. To address a couple of these problems, it should be noted that the door opening is set by the club. Their staff won't come in any earlier than 9 pm. Another problem is the regular Goth crowd at The Vatikan are not curious and are not coming out, even though Nash's music is played every night at the club and the walls are plastered with gig posters. The die-hard fans are out however, and they are in for a treat tonight. The opening act is Inseminoid, a two-man group with a very heavy Techno assault of beats, monster synths and noise. They call it 'Alien Porn Music'. Nash and his friends are very impressed. Shortly after midnight, Nash hits the stage and performs one set of Thrash, finishing with a crash and burn rendition of Dead Man's Curve. I like going to the shows with Nash at The Vatikan. Both last month and tonight I got to hang out front at the bar instead of in the basement dressing room. I don't mind acting as dressing room security, but I'd rather be lying on the floor under someone's feet. It was a good show tonight, and hopefully as we keep doing it through the summer months, more people will have time to come and check it out. There won't be a show for June, as the club is booked for a tattoo convention. The next performance will be Wednesday July 30th. Digger |
