It's a beautiful fall day as we head out on the road for Kitchener, a one-hour drive away. This is the first gig we've done in months, and Nash is eager to get back on stage. We've played The Registry Theatre before, and our friends Coral and Tom are taking care of the promotion and media. The buzz is waiting for us. Tonight, Nash will be doing two sets, the first a preview of the Two Artists presentation and the second a set of Thrash. When the front doors are opened at 8 pm to the public, the fans refuse to enter, preferring instead to remain outside in the cold night air to watch a full moon lunar eclipse. Nash and I join the crowd of familiar faces. There's Ordinance Bob, Suzie Q, Lost Lenore, Karl and Di from Ithaca New York, and some new friends from Germany. For 30 minutes the moon is an eerie ball of deep red, evoking memories of Druid rituals and giving tonight's performance a kind of 'blessing from the gods'. After many months of inactivity, Nash is glad to be back on stage. Nash's house and health are back to normal, the new stage equipment all works and the bandages are fresh and clean. Both sets are well received, and at the end of the night Nash signs autographs in the lobby and chats with the fans. This being a non-alcohol concert, older Nash fans bring their sons and daughters to the show and these neophytes are as excited about the show as their elders. I wander about the lobby, watching for any sign of 'doggy affection disorder', in which case I sidle up to the effusive dog lover and slap a big wet tongue on their cheek. That's about as close as you get to a Digger autograph. Thanks again to Coral, Tom and the fans in Kitchener for putting Nash back in action. Digger |
